“If you come back to bed with me, then I will pretend like nothing ever happened in the morning. I just want a warm body in my bed for once.” That last part was her undoing she had never slept in the same bed with another person in her whole life.

“I do need to take a shower.” Because now her hair was all wet and it would be a tangled mess without conditioner.

“Get your things you can shower in my room.” Griffin was not going to give her the chance to change her mind. Grabbing more clean clothes she followed him from the room.

Griffin was just finishing the bed when she came out of his bathroom. She noticed that he had changed the sheets. He held out his hand to her and she -placed her hand in his.

“I promise in the morning I will not say a word about tonight. Just give me tonight.” That man had her ready to eat out of the palm of his hand. Together they climbed into the bed and he proceeded to make her forget everything else. For most of the night he made love to her. She enjoyed all of it. The thought that in the morning she would not have to deal with any of it was freeing.

  Four

Griffin was a man of his word and as soon as they awoke in the morning he got out of bed and went into his bathroom. She half expected him to follow her to Megan’s room but he did not.

In the kitchen she waited not sure what to expect. However, it was just like the morning before. The man had his coffee and went about life as normal.

“Eli has a half day today, so he will be home earlier than usual. Did you wash my blue and black shirt?” Just like normal and that bothered her. There was a part of her that wanted to know what he would be like in the light of day.

“Yep.” She said thinking about her sister. What on earth was she going to say to her sister? Hey I slept with your boss and he thought it was you. How on earth had they worked together so long and not had sex? Did Megan not think of the man in that way? Every woman had to think of the man in that way. Marley kept her attention on anything but him. She would be glad when he left so she could breathe again.

Marley could hear him moving around and tried to focus on the land just outside the kitchen window.

“I am trying, Megan.” He said as he came to press his front to her back. His hands pressed against the counter on either side of her. She could only nod her head. Closing her eyes tight she bit her bottom lip. This was not what she needed. She had to admit that she was attracted to him. There was not one reason to deny that fact. The chemistry between them would not be ignored.

“You said we could pretend like nothing happened.” Marley reminded him, too many little thoughts exploding in her brain to think. There were thoughts of her sister, and this man. What would happen between them when Megan came back? Would he want to sleep with her sister? The thought should not make her feel jealous but it did. In his defense he had no idea that she was not her sister.

“I said I would not talk about it. I can let this happen and not say a word.” That was easy for him to say, he was a man. Men did not have such a hard time with relationships as women. Well at least that was what she thought. Maybe they did. How was she supposed to know? She was having a hard enough time keeping up with the situation she was in to worry about it.

Turning toward him she wanted to tell him that she was not good with this. She needed to come clean and tell him the truth. Either way she was going to lose out. He would hate her because she had lied to him. No matter how she tried to justify it, it was still a lie. His mouth covered hers and she tried her best not to react to him.

“I am not.” She tried when his mouth came off of hers for a split second and then he was right back to kissing her. Marley meant to push him away from her but her hands froze the moment they touched that wall of a chest. The cotton of his shirt did nothing to hide the man underneath.

“Not what?” He asked as he kissed up her cheek.

“Uh.” What was she going to say to him? This was not happening to her.

“Not.” Another feather light kiss dropped on her lips and she lost all thought.

“I don’t know.” She admitted and pushed against him. Griffin took a step back giving her the space she needed to step around him and walk away from him. Megan was going to kill her, but Megan should have some of the fallout of this mess. Instead of living it up with her friends in Hawaii.

In the laundry room she pulled his blue and black shirt off the hanger and turned. He had followed her into the laundry room. Marley held it out to him, he took it. His eyes studying her face. Something in that split second told her that he knew more than he was telling. She knew that she should listen to that intuition, but with everything else going on, she could not be sure. Maybe it was just her over active imagination.

“Have a good day.” Marley said trying to sound as normal as she could. The lump in her throat was proving harder and harder to swallow. Griffin’s smile was only a half smile and then he turned and left her in that room.

By afternoon she had done all the work that needed to be done. Her laptop held no interest for her. She should study some and brush up on that commercial law a bit more, but her head was not in it. She needed to text her sister. That was something that needed to be said on the phone but she was not ready to do that yet. The phone rang and she saw that it was Megan.

  “Hello.”

“What the hell happened?” Megan demanded over the line.

“I just got a text from Griffin, care to explain what he means about last night.” Why hadn’t she thought about that?

“I am sorry, Megan, but it just happened.” There was no reason to beat around the bush. The phone call was probably going to cost her sister a fortune. And she was probably going to cost her sister this job.

“What the hell does that mean?” Megan all but shouted through the line.

“I am not going to spell it out for you.”

“You had sex with my boss.” It was more of a statement than a question.

“He thinks you are me.” She did not need that reminder.

“I know, Megan, and I am sorry. I don’t know how to fix it.” There was no fixing it. There was no going back in time to change it. Marley felt the headache building behind her eyes.

“What am I supposed to text back?” Megan asked and Marley did not have the answer.

“Well how was it?” Megan asked after several moments of silence. Marley did not want to answer her sister. This was the biggest mess up of their lives.

“I am going to tell him the truth.” Marley said knowing that was the only way out of this mess.

“No you are not. He hates liars and he will fire me. Just keep it simple until I get back and I will fix it.” Marley was sure Megan would be able to if she just left it to her sister. Besides she did not want Griffin to hate her.

  “Okay.” Marley said in defeat.

“I have got this, Marley, just trust me. Love you.” Megan said and she knew that this conversation was done.

“Love you too.” Then they hung up. Marley could not deal with anything more so she made her way to Megan’s room and had herself a nap.

Griffin checked the cat over one more time. Melissa had called and made an appointment to have Boots checked out. Griffin should feel bad about taking money for unnecessary visits, but it these women wanted to see him that bad then so be it. It was something that he had gotten used to very early on. His wife had been different, or so he had believed. She made him think he was more than just a pretty face. That was not worth thinking about now.

“He seems perfectly fine to me, Mrs. Graham.” Griffin used her married name to remind her that she was a married woman and should not be using this cat to get closer to him.

“He hasn’t been eating well. Do you think he needs females company?” Griffin looked at her and resisted to urge to laugh. That question was aimed at him and he knew it.

“He has been neutered, female company would just be a bother to him at this point.” He knew the cat had been fixed, he had done the surgery himself.

“Oh, I forgot about that.” She said laying her hand on his wrist. Moving his hand he pushed the cat toward her. Melissa Graham had been trying for months to entice him, she was just not his type.

“He is fine, but let me know if he really has a problem.” With that he left the room and headed for is office. Pulling his phone from his pocket he looked for the reply from Megan. He could imagine that she had already called her sister and been told the truth.

‘It’s all good in the hood.’ Was the reply and that was so typical Megan that it made him smile. He could only imagine the conversation that she had with Marley. How were the two of them going to fix this? That was something that he could not wait to find out. Last night had not been part of the plan but it had been nice. He had not slept with a woman in years. Not since his wife had he had another body to sleep the entire night. All of the women that he had been sex partners with never stayed the whole night. That was something that he wanted from Marley. Not sure what to make of that idea yet, he pushed it to the back of his brain. Yes there was chemistry but that could be found pretty much in any new relationship. He wondered if one of them would break and tell him the truth. He honestly thought Marley was going to tell him when he kissed her at the sink. He was not ready for the game to be over so he had kissed her to keep the truth away. That was wrong on so many levels but he was a man. A man that didn’t mind the warm body of the opposite sex. Yes this was a game that he was going to play until it ended.

‘Sneak into my room tonight when Eli is sleeping. I have a surprise for you.’ He sent the text to Megan and wondered what she was going to tell her sister. Yes this was going to be fun.

When the text from Megan came Marley frowned. This was not what she wanted to hear or read. She had no plans of continuing this, whatever it was, any further. Her brain told her that she had to tell him the truth. If she did not then he was going to think he was sleeping with her sister and that was not fair to any of them. Megan had taken a screen capture of the text and sent that to her.

‘Tell him no.’ Was her reply to her sister. Sitting at the kitchen table she thought about this situation. Three days in and things were all out of whack. How had all of this happened? The door opened and Eli came in.

“Okay, Tuttle.” She heard him say to the man behind him and she was glad. At least she would know who the man was. Standing she smoothed her hands down her thighs and smiled.

“Are you hungry?” She asked Eli not knowing what else to say.

“Can you make me a grilled cheese?” He asked with a shy smile. Nodding she went about getting the items she would need. Tuttle moved to sit at the table. When she met his eyes she smiled.

“Would you like something to drink?” The only thing she knew about the man was that he drank tea. The look he gave her was one of confusion. Then he simply nodded his head at her. This was never going to happen again. She was never going to switch with Megan. It was just too complicated. There were so many things that her sister probably did out of habit that she did not know about. Eli came back into the kitchen and sat at the table across from Tuttle.

“We lost our baseball game.” Eli said to Tuttle.

“You’ll get them next time.” Tuttle said as she sat the glass in front of him. Eli laughed at something that she did not see nor understand.

“That is not his cup. Tuttle uses the blue cup.” That was the perfect reminder that she was in over her head. She was not going to switch the cups.

“Today he gets a promotion.” Marley said before moving back to the stove and dropping the sandwich into the pan.

“What’s a promotion?” Eli asked and she did not answer him.

“It means something better.” Tuttle said and she had to appreciate the simplicity of his answer. The door opened again and Griffin came in. He smiled at his son and then tilted his head in her direction. Typical cowboy she thought. What was it with these men and their head tilting?

“That is not your cup.” She heard Griffin say and she wondered just how dang important a stupid cup was anyway.

“I got a promotion.” Tuttle explained as she turned to carry Eli’s plate to the table.

“Did you wash my shirt?” Griffin asked heading in the direction of the laundry room. She bit her tongue to keep from asking him if he wore it everyday. That was something that Megan would know. Just a few more days. Heading into the laundry room she lifted the hanger and carried it back out to him.

“Thanks.” He said with a wink and then turned and headed down the hall. She wondered if Megan had texted him the ‘No’ yet. What on earth could he have meant by surprise?

There was no need to ponder that thought further. She was not going to sneak into his room.

  Five

Marley did not sneak into his room, but he snuck into hers. It was well past two o’clock when she felt the bed move. Rolling over she saw that it was him and he was moving closer to her.

“What are you doing?” Marley asked because she was not ready to deal with this man.

“You would not come to me so I brought the surprise to you.” Griffin said as he brought his naked body against her.

“What surprise?” She asked because she knew that he was not hiding anything on that body.

“This.” He said and nudged her with his erection. Marley stifled a groan and rolled over leaving him to look at her back.

“You can keep it. I don’t think it fits.” Marley was joking because she did not know what else to say to the man.

“We both know it is a perfect fit.” His hands were sliding the panties down her legs.

“Griffin.” She tried but he rolled her over and kissed her. All rational thought left her. He knew what he was doing. Her mind would not allow her to worry about tomorrow. At that moment she was only thinking about him.

In the morning she woke up wrapped in his arms. The clock on the bedside table said it was almost six. Marley tried to get out of his hold, but he was not having it. He groaned and pulled her back to his body.

“I have to get up.” She reminded him. It did not work, she was pulled closer to him. Griffin made to kiss her and she turned her head.

“No my breath could kill a stallion this morning.” It was probably not that bad, but she did not want him starting something.

“So you think I am a stallion?” He asked groggily and she smiled. The man was always so sharp.

“More like a donkey, now let me up.” Marley said and he did release her. Griffin rolled over to his back and looked at her.

“A donkey?” Griffin asked while covering his heart with his hand. Shaking her head she made her way to the bathroom. The man was impossible. Marley took her time with using the toilet and then brushing her teeth. Studying her teeth she wondered if she should have them whitened again. That would make her feel better after the week she was dealing with.

“You should go to your own room.” Marley stated when she opened the door to find him standing there. At least he had pulled on a pair of boxer shorts.

“I am going to use your tooth brush.” He said as he moved past her into the bathroom. That was the last thing she wanted to hear. She did not believe he was actually going to do it. If he did she would just change the heads. Climbing back into the bed she rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. She had almost achieved that mission when he raised the blanket and got back in the bed with her.

“Go away.” Marley tried with her sleep filled brain. She was not sure if it came out clearly or not.

“Morning sex is the best.” Griffin said and she wondered if the man ever lost that drive. It did not seem like it. After the morning sex he did leave the room and she tried her best to sleep. It was not working so she headed for the shower instead.

That seemed to be the way it went until Friday. He spent every night in Megan’s bed with Marley. By noon on Friday she was so cranky that nothing was going to help. The frustration she had felt since Wednesday night had her cleaning the house with a vengeance. The house had probably never been that clean. If left up to Megan it would never be that clean again.

“Is something bothering you?” Griffin asked when he came in and found her standing at the kitchen sink. There were no dishes to wash and she had washed the counter three times already.

“No I am fine.” She said and knew that her voice did not sound fine. If she had to admit what was really bothering her it was the thought that when she left Megan would be back. Would he sneak into Megan’s bed? Would he be able to tell the difference? Somewhere in the short week that she had been here she had developed some feelings for the man.

“You are not fine.” The statement was stern. He knew that she was not fine and he was not afraid to call her out on it. Some gentleman he was.
