“Leave me alone, Tyrone. Mrs. Smith, please get your son before I cause a scene in here.”

“Cheer up, Melody. We’re here to celebrate you. Tyrone, please apologize to Melody now,” Mrs. Smith instructed him while sternly pointing her finger at him.

“Melody, baby, I’m sorry. Now can you please pick your head up?” he asked. As she lifted her head, the server stood beside her.

  5

“Hi, are you ready to order your entrees now?” the waitress asked.

“Yes, ma’am. Please bring us all your largest steak and shrimp plates with mashed potatoes and asparagus,” Mrs. Smith suggested.

“Well done, please,” Melody chimed in.

“May I take your menus?” the waiter asked. Tyrone passed his menu to the lovely server with a stare. Melody noticed him eyeing the server and was immediately turned off.

“Dang mama, you didn’t allow me to order for myself,” he explained.

“Sorry. I’m used to doing everything. You will always be my baby boy,” Mrs. Smith responded.

“Here we go. I’m no longer your baby boy. I am a grown man now. I wish you would treat me like a man and not a boy.” Mrs. Smith wiped her face to keep from getting upset.

“I understand, son, and I’ll respect your wish going forward. I will allow you to order the dessert for us,” Mrs. Smith said.

Melody burst out laughing so hard that she spit her champagne out of her mouth.

Mrs. Smith was petty, but he had no choice but to respect her. She reminded everyone of the character, Claire Huxtable, on The Cosby Show. She had style, grace, and was also a respected lawyer. She had always been the best mother a son could imagine. Even as an adult, she still looked out for him. Without her, Melody would not have had any support with the baby. Tyrone had been too busy with his caseloads at the law firm to help parent the baby. He was following in his parents’ footsteps becoming a lawyer. Although, his father was a judge.

A few moments later, Tyrone’s phone beeped with a text message.

Hello, sir, something is wrong with the baby. I can’t seem to console her.

Tyrone looked up from his phone in a daze.

  “Babe, what’s wrong?” Melody asked.

“I don’t know, but I just got a text from the babysitter that something is wrong with the baby,” he replied.

“What?! Why did she only text you?” Melody asked.

“I don’t know!” Tyrone replied in confusion. Melody grabbed her Birkin bag.

“Well, let’s go! I need to get home to my baby.”

Tyrone and Mrs. Smith followed behind Melody. She walked furiously out of the restaurant so fast that they couldn’t keep up with her. Tyrone drove the car back to the house.

“Tyrone, can you drive faster? You act like you don’t care if something is wrong with the baby. You’re taking your sweet time,” Melody spoke.

“Calm down, Melody. I’m sure the baby is fine. The babysitter is just concerned,” Tyrone said. Melody let out a loud scream.

“Ugh, I am so tired of your lack of concern for Yireh!” Melody screamed.

“Okay, you two. Enough! I need you both to remain calm for the baby. Everything is all right. Don’t worry. I’m sure she is fine, but you must work together through this,” Mrs. Smith explained.

  “Yes, ma’am,” Melody uttered.

Moments later, they arrived home. Melody burst through the door.

“Where is my baby?” Ari was standing in the middle of the living room, holding Yireh as she cried. Melody took the baby from Ari.

“Come on, mama is here,” Melody said as she stroked Yireh’s black, silky, straight hair. Yireh had a head full of hair on her bald head. As soon as she felt her mother’s bosom, she stopped crying.

“Aww, I guess she just missed her mommy,” Ari said as she raised her hands full of long stiletto nails.

“Thank you for watching her while we had dinner. Next time, can you please contact me? I’m the first point of contact. If you can’t reach me, then reach out to Tyrone,” Melody said with a snare towards Ari.

“I’m sorry. I just called any phone number on the board. I didn’t think it mattered. If you will excuse me, I need to go freshen up for the night,” Ari said while walking away. As she walked away, she seductively eyed Tyrone.

Tyrone immediately caught the seductive stare that Ari gave him, and he looked down. Tyrone was a handsome, rich man. Any woman would be attracted to him, as he was always mistaken for the rapper, The Game. Tyrone felt an attraction between them, but he ignored it. He had enough on his plate than to worry about a woman—especially one that was now living in the home as their nanny.

“It looks like the celebration party has been cut short by my grandbaby. She deserves all the attention. So, I will go to my hotel room. Call me if you need anything,” Mrs. Smith said as she gave Yireh a kiss on the forehead.

“Aww, you’re leaving so soon?” Melody asked.

“Yes, I need to give you all some bonding time,” Mrs. Smith said.

“Thank you for dinner. It was great,” Melody said.

“You’re welcome and congratulations again, sweetie.”

“Thanks, Mama Smith.” Melody blew out a kiss for Mrs. Smith as she walked away.

Melody took out her left breast and began to feed the baby. Tyrone had a look of disgust. He grabbed a blanket from the couch. Then he placed the blanket around the baby to allow Melody to cover herself while breastfeeding.

“Dang, you act like you’re disturbed about me breastfeeding our baby,” she said.

“Why do you always want to pick a fight with me, Melody?” he asked.

“I’m not trying to pick a fight with you. I’m speaking the mind God gave me. I’m confused about the reason you want me to cover up my breast while breastfeeding in our home,” she explained.

“Maybe I’m showing you respect,” he replied.

Melody laughed at Tyrone’s comment. Then she began to talk to the baby as she looked in her eyes. Tyrone began to walk upstairs.

“Why are you leaving the room, Tyrone?” Melody asked.

“I’m going to our bedroom to study. Is that all right with you?” he asked.

Melody shook her head in disappointment. “You just refuse to bond with us. It’s sad.”

“Whatever, Melody. Nothing is ever enough for you. We just came from dinner. I spent time with you,” he responded.

“Yes, but you didn’t spend time with our baby,” she spoke.

Tyrone threw his hands up and walked up their staircase.

Melody began to silently pray to God about her relationship with Tyrone. The relationship was suffering, and she was asking God to step in and fix it. Only God could fix it.

As Tyrone made it upstairs, he walked toward the bathroom.

“Oh, excuse me. I’m so sorry, sir,” Ari explained. Tyrone bumped into Ari, who was walking with a towel wrapped around her.

“I thought I could rush to my room without anyone noticing me. I hope I didn’t offend you by walking in with only a towel,” she whispered.

“I’m not offended at all. Make yourself at home,” Tyrone said while staring at Ari. He couldn’t help but stare as the towel barely covered her full body.

“I’ll just get in my room. Good night,” said Ari.

“Yes, you do that,” Tyrone said while licking his lips.

After Melody fed the baby, milk continued to leak from her breast. She felt dirty and needed a bath. She went upstairs to get the assistance of the nanny.

  Knock, Knock.

“Hey, Ari. I’m sorry to bother you, but can you watch the baby while I shower, please?” Melody asked.

Ari was dressed in a tiny, pink, satin negligee. “Yes, ma’am. Of course, I can watch her. Take your time and relax,” she replied.

“One last thing, Ari. While you’re in my house, please wear a robe,” Melody advised.

“Um, sure. I don’t mind wearing a robe,” Ari said and rolled her eyes.

“Oh, she’s asleep because I just fed her. If she happens to want more food, her bottles are in the refrigerator,” Melody advised.

Melody left the room and shut the door. “Oh, Melody, you can feel free to leave the baby with me tonight. Have one-on-one time with your man,” Ari said and winked her eye.

Melody thought about what Ari said. Alone time with Tyrone was what they needed. Usually, the baby was always in bed with them, and they couldn’t have intimacy. It was a perfect opportunity to spend intimate time with Tyrone. Melody planned to make this a night to rekindle their romance.

After taking her shower, Melody went into the bedroom, fresh out the shower.

“Hey babe, can you lotion my back for me?” Melody asked. Tyrone took a deep sigh.

“Don’t you see I’m trying to study, Melody?” Tyrone said without even looking up from his book.

“What about me? I’m your woman. Can you just put the lotion on my back for me?” she asked.

“Come on, Melody.” Tyrone put the lotion on his hand and on Melody’s back without any emotion.

“Thanks a lot, babe,” Melody said, rolling her eyes. He continued to read his book as if Melody weren’t in the room with him.

Melody was laying in the bed while Tyrone continued to ignore her. “Tyrone, I’m going to make an appointment with a therapist as your mother suggested. Will you come with me?” she asked.

  “I don’t care,” he replied.

“Good, because we need help in this relationship. It feels like I’m in this by myself,” Melody said as she began to cry.

“Oh my God. Melody, baby, please don’t start crying. I’ll put my book away and go to bed with you. We will figure this out,” he spoke.

“Okay. Thank you, babe,” Melody replied.

Moments later, Tyrone was snoring. He was sleeping like a baby. Melody continued to cry as she thought about how the romantic night had gone.

Melody grew up in the church. She was taught to go to God in prayer about her worries. A part of her knew that having someone who did not know them personally could help them deal with their struggles. Depression was becoming so miserable that Melody was finding it hard to pray, even though she understood God knew all her struggles.

“God, heal me where I’m broken. Restore my relationship with Tyrone,” Melody spoke out in prayer as she was on her knees on her side of the bed. She went to the bathroom and wiped her face. Then got into the bed quietly to ensure that she did not wake up Tyrone. She set her alarm to wake up early to go to the recording studio to start recording a song.

The next morning, the smell of bacon in the air woke her up before the alarm sounded. Melody felt beside her for Tyrone, and he was not in the bed. She jumped up and put on her robe. She ran down the stairs to find out about the smell.

“Good morning, beautiful!” Ari greeted Melody. “Would you like some breakfast?” Ari asked.

“Sure, thanks for cooking breakfast, Ari,” Melody replied.

“Yes, I finally got me some bacon and sausage for breakfast,” Tyrone said with sarcasm.

“Do you like grits, Melody?” Ari asked.

“Yes, I’ll take some grits,” Melody replied.

“Babe, how long have you been up?” Melody asked Tyrone.

“I just came downstairs about ten minutes ago,” he replied.

“Well, why didn’t you wake me up?” she asked.

“I didn’t think you had anything to do. So, I just let you sleep,” Tyrone said as he took a sip of hot coffee from his favorite coffee mug.

“Yes, I must go to the recording studio. It’s time that I start recording my song,” she responded.

“You also had to cook breakfast for me, so I don’t go to work on an empty stomach. I’m glad we have Ari here to help,” he replied.

“Really, Tyrone? You didn’t have to demean me,” Melody responded.

“Have you checked on the baby yet?” he asked.

“Oh, she’s fine. I already fed her this morning,” Ari chimed into the conversation. “I’m glad someone is taking care of us,” Tyrone said with sarcasm. “Well, I need to get to the office. I’ll see you later Melody,” he spoke.

“You’re just going to leave without giving me a kiss goodbye?” Melody asked. Tyrone quickly ran by and gave Melody a kiss on her lips. “Bye, baby. Love you,” Melody said as Tyrone walked away.

She noticed that Ari was still dressed in a short gown without her robe.

“I don’t mean any disrespect, but I thought I asked you to wear a robe around my house,” Melody spoke.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disobey your rules. I was just trying to make sure I had breakfast ready for you. I wasn’t thinking about my clothing. It won’t happen again,” Ari explained.

“I appreciate it, Ari,” Melody uttered as she shook her head in disappointment.

“Maybe you should wear lingerie to satisfy your man,” Ari mumbled.

“Did you say something, Ari?” Melody asked.

“I’m sorry, but I dress for myself. If I don’t dress nice, my spirit feels down. I love silk. It makes me feel beautiful. You should try to dress beautiful in the home. Your man will love it,” Ari cheerfully esteemed Melody. Then, when you look in the mirror, you will always feel good. Can I tell you something about me, Melody?” she asked.

  “Sure, you can,” Melody replied.

“My mother raised me wearing tired robes and old house shoes. You deserve to always look and feel beautiful. When you change your attire, watch how your man reacts to you. If you want, I can show you some of my lingerie I have for sale. Outside of my nanny business, I also have a lingerie and sex toy business. I love children, but I’m also grown. I love to feel beautiful, and I am aware of my sexuality,” Ari spoke.

“Thank you for the suggestion, Ari, but I’ll pass on the lingerie and sex toys,” Melody said with a look of confusion on her face.

“Okay, when you wake up, I’m available to show you samples. I can feel the tension in the house. Your man will become inspired to have a gentle attitude toward you once you become beautiful around him. Plus, girl, your man can have any woman he wants. He’s a freaking billionaire!” Ari explained.

“So, are you saying I’m ugly and not doing enough to keep my man happy?” Melody asked.

“No, ma’am.” Ari laughed. “I’m saying you need to wear some nice jewelry, accessorize your hair, waist, ankles, wear pumps, and colored clothes. Also, your house is so dark. There are no pictures on the walls of you or your family. I suggest you put some lavender or white in your living room. You also need some plants and rugs to welcome people into the home. You should burn Jasmine incense in the morning for peace or other sweet-smelling oils in the home. If you don’t mind, I can bring some oils from my house. I want your home happy for the baby,” Ari advised.

“I love all your suggestions. Thank you, Ari!” Melody exclaimed as she gave Ari a hug.

“I must get ready and go to the studio. I’m running late,” Melody said.

“Okay. Please put some curls in your hair and put on some makeup. Girl, you are beautiful. Please act like it,” Ari suggested.

  “Aww, thank you again, Ari.”

“You’re welcome. I will go ahead and clean the kitchen, even though I’m not a housekeeper. I’m here to help you, and a clean kitchen will set the tone for the day,” Ari spoke.

“Thank you, and I want to have a day full of good vibes!” Melody snapped her fingers in the air as she walked upstairs to get ready for the day.

Before, Melody didn’t like the idea of having Ari in the home. Now that they’d talked, she was starting to feel comfortable with her there. Melody decided she should have rules for the home, but she was also open to change. She was determined to become the best new gospel singer, and Ari could help her at home with the baby. Melody was a Godly woman and that wouldn’t change. She also wanted to become the best woman for Tyrone and the best mother for Yireh.

Melody went into the baby’s nursery to check on her. She was sound asleep. She gave her a soft kiss on her chubby cheeks. She was perfect for her and getting bigger each day. Melody went into the room to pump more milk for Yireh to have many bottles while she was away at the studio. The breast milk was keeping her baby healthy, and she wanted to keep her a full supply. She believed it was her duty as a mother to make sure Yireh was healthy. As she pumped her milk, there was a knock at the door.

“Ms. Melody, I’m sorry to interrupt, but do you have any diet restrictions for dinner?” Ari asked.

“I’m vegetarian, but my husband doesn’t have any restrictions,” Melody replied.

“Okay, I’ll have dinner ready for y’all when you get home,” Ari spoke.

“You don’t have to cook dinner, Ari,” Melody responded.

“I know, but I want to cook. I’m sure I’ll have free time while Yireh sleeps during the day. I’ll have a healthy meal ready for the family, and then you can bond with the baby,” Ari replied.

“Do you need me to get you anything from the store?” Melody asked.

“No, ma’am. It looks like you have a refrigerator full of food. I can whip up some dishes from what’s in the kitchen,” Ari spoke.

“I thank God for you, Ari!” Melody replied. Ari took a bow and left the bedroom. Before she left the room, she looked around, and the bedroom was just as blah as the rest of the house. It was sad how Melody and Tyrone were living so dull and without joy in the home. Ari wanted to change everything about their home quickly.

Melody decided to take her a bath before leaving for the studio to clear negative energy. The baby woke up in the next room and was screaming to the top of her lungs. Ari had a baby monitor in her room and in the kitchen to hear when the baby cried out. She ran to her to relieve her anxiety.

“It’s okay, baby. Ari is here for you,” Ari spoke, as she rocked Yireh back and forth to calm her down. She wouldn’t calm down in Ari’s arms, so she took her downstairs. Ari rocked the baby in the rocking chair. She wouldn’t calm down, so she grabbed a bottle to feed her. Her crying persisted.
