“What the …?” I say out loud looking at the little blob of blood collecting on the end of my fingertip.

I look up to find Ryder staring at me in confused amazement.

“Ryder?” I ask him questioningly like he should have the answer to what’s just happened to me. But instead, it’s he who shakes his head.

  “I … I … have fangs?” I ask scared of the answer.

  He nods slowly.

  “But how?” I ask.

“I don’t know,” he replies honestly.

For a moment I almost forget the wings I felt free themselves from my back. I turn my head to the sides and look over each shoulder. Two large black wings, just like Ryder’s are folded neatly against my back.

“I have wings too?” I exclaim as I look back at Ryder.

  He nods his answer again.

“But that’s not all. Your eyes, they’re black too … You’re …” He pauses taking a breath and shaking his head again. “You’re a vampire Willow,” he states.

  “I can’t be a vampire … can I?” I squint.

  “I … I … I didn’t think so. But here you are.”

I have no idea how this could’ve happened … well no other idea apart from Ryder turning me at some point?

“Did you do this?” I ask him accusingly.

“Of course not!” he defends looking up at me.

  “Then how?” I ask again.

“I’ve no idea,” he replies before adding. “Anyway, even if I did turn you, at the most, you would only have the fangs. Only highborn's have wings remember,” he explains.

“So how’s this happened to me then?” I ask as I move and stand up in front of him. My new wings sway behind me and I wobble on my feet. It’s strange because even though each wing is as long as I am tall, they don’t feel heavy, they just take a little getting used to balancing.

“I honestly have no idea?” he answers.

“Could it be because I’m human and you’re a vampire? Is this like some kind of freaky side effect of our species mixing?” I ask grasping at straws now. I know the answer before Ryder even says it.

“No, nothing like this has ever happened. Not that I know of anyway,” he explains.

“So what do we do now?”

“Now … now we get revenge …
