Deadend

A chance encounter disrupts a normal evening with the arrival of travelers from the unknown occupying a home in Texas. This short story is not unreasonable to imagine. The President of the United States has been targeted for assassination—by his own party’s power structure. A national election is pending and the killing must look as if the opposition party is responsible. Desperate to prevent the crime and avoid an overwhelming defeat, the opposition turns to the only force that can stop it this late in the game—a mysterious hunter-killer team known only as the Sleeping Dogs. This blackest of black ops units was formed to carry out the wettest, most illegal missions. Later, a U.S. President, fearing discovery of the unit’s existence could spark an international crisis, ordered its members terminated with extreme prejudice. They escaped and went underground. Now, 20 years later, they are asked to leave the safety of their anonymity and risk their lives for their country one more time. A seemingly unconnected car crash rapidly escalates into a series of plot twists and rising body count involving Russian agents, crooked politicians, Ukrainian gangsters, a billionaire international arbitrageur, a secret society of individuals in the military and intelligence communities, the CIA, a doggedly determined FBI agent, and the six deadliest men on earth—the surviving Sleeping Dogs. Sleeping Dogs: The Awakening is a techno-political spy thriller that combines relentless action, crisp dialogue, fully drawn characters, and thought provoking plot twists. Squarely on the same page with David Baldacci, Brad Thor, Lee Child and other best-selling thriller writers.Part 1, a novella, establishes the story lines and introduces the principal characters, including Brendan Whelan—the leader of the Sleeping Dogs unit and the deadliest man on the planet.

A Christmas Wish

Two poor kids write a letter to Santa Claus wishing for a special present. What happens is a surprise of a lifetime for the whole family.Ud was once a man, but then he died and then tumbled down the lower dead realms called the Way Down, until he ended up as a skeleton creature in Fourth World, three layers beneath ours. He became a wight (skeleton) slave to the ruling elite there, known to Ud as the Ereshkagali, from his name for the god of the underworld when he was a human in the far past.Over the course of millennia, he achieved what no one else had ever done, climbing from the bone dust lands of Fourth World, up to the Ghast swamps of Third World, through the Ghoul forests of Second World, and finally up to First World, the world of mortals. And, after his initial elation at being able to feel as he once did the wates and clean air, free of rot and parasites the size of dogs passed, he began to realize a few truths.-His mind was now in four parts, one for Ud the Wight (skeleton), Ud the Ghast, Ud the Ghoul and the newly minted Ud the Mortal.-Fragmented memories meant that he only remembered pieces of his selves at a time.-One of those fragments of memory brings with it a warning that all mortals should fear regarding the future of the Way Down.**Note-It's worth pointing out that the words and backstory of Ud when he was alive are related to a people that really existed, as well as a real language.

    I Scream for Halloween

I Scream for Halloween

Blurb HalloweenHalloween is special for all kids and adults who still have a little kid left in them. I’m knocking on the door of seven decades of enjoying Halloween. I lived in a small town where a haunted house sat waiting for a foolish person to enter. I never did. I’m smarter than that; are you? This new edition of a classic story contains Charles Sheldon's original writing, with some passages sensitively abridged to allow his powerful story to come through for modern readers. Nothing in the storyline has been changed.A homeless man staggers into a wealthy church and upsets the congregation. A week later he is dead. This causes the Rev. Henry Maxwell to issue a startling challenge to his congregation and to himself -- whatever you do in life over the next twelve months, ask yourself this question before making any decision: "What would Jesus do?"The local newspaper editor, a novelist, a wealthy young woman who has inherited a million dollars, her friend who has been offered a professional singing career, the superintendent of the railroad workshops, a leading city merchant and others take up the challenge. But how will it all work out when things don't go as expected?A bishop gives up his comfortable lifestyle -- and finds his life threatened in the city slums. The story is timeless. A great read, and a challenge to every Christian today.Abridged by Chris Wright. Chris is the author of over thirty books, starting with young fiction for an English Christian publisher in 1966. He has written both fiction and non-fiction, mostly with a Christian theme, for a variety of publishers. Chris is married with three grownup children, and lives in the West Country of England where he is a home group leader with his local church. His website is: www.rocky-island.com.

Fiction based upon truth. In any story told there is some truth woven in the tale. I heard this story from an English teacher whom I met in South Korea a few years ago. So, all of you out there intending on enjoying a turkey dinner, perhaps a reminder of who really to be thankful for back in 1621.Have you ever wondered what could happen after a kid's parents die?
